David Jones x Union Pay

David Jones x Union Pay Custom Editorial Magazine Photo Booth.

Polite Playground collaborated with David Jones to host an exclusive fashion event at their flagship Elizabeth Street store. This partnership showcased international students on the cover of a customized "Jones" magazine, offering a unique blend of luxury and creativity.

Objective

To celebrate the launch of The Jones magazine, David Jones wanted to offer VIPs a taste of the editorial experience—on-site, on-theme, and instantly delivered. The challenge? Delivering high-fashion visuals in a tightly constrained venue, without compromising on quality or style.

Our Approach

Polite Playground designed a scaled-down, high-impact photo activation that mimicked the sophistication of a professional editorial shoot. We leaned into simplicity and elegance—replacing complex sets with a single draped fabric backdrop in rich Chartreuse, mirroring the aesthetic of The Jones Autumn issue featuring Charlee Fraser.

Execution

Despite spatial and logistical constraints, the setup delivered premium results:

Curious to know what exactly a ‘styling bar’ entails? An epic pop-up salon in the middle of campus – styling chairs, wash station, blow dry bar, and professional hair stylists to look after your locks.

What’s the first thing #millennials do after getting a fresh new hairstyle?! Whether it’s just a cut or a full-on colour transformation –  it didn’t happen if it’s not on social media. After students had their hair professionally dyed, they headed over to our PIXTA Pod ‘Selfie Station’ to capture the perfect shot.

Contact us

Equipped with a bright ring light, you’re definitely going to snap a few different options because let’s be honest, you’ll want the content for a good #throwback down the track. After students snapped their ‘before and after’ shots, they were able to instantly send their content to themselves using our social sharing software.
