This high-energy experiential activation transformed Sydney's bustling CBD into an interactive fitness zone, inviting the public to test their strength on a live leaderboard and unlock massive travel rewards.

The Brief.

Fitness First Australia wanted to highlight the need to bring fitness into everyday spaces and remind the public how fun movement can be. The challenge: breaking through the noise of a busy retail district to encourage distracted city-goers to rethink their physical health. The goal was simple: launch a free, interactive strength challenge that would drive massive public participation, boost on-site membership sign-ups, and organically amplify their limited-time frequent flyer rewards campaign across social media.

How We Did It.

Polite Playground conceptualised and delivered a fun, competitive pop-up gym concept right in the heart of Sydney's bustling Pitt Street Mall. Built to inspire and challenge everyday commuters, shoppers, and fitness enthusiasts, the activation injected a high-energy pulse directly into the pavement.

At the centre of the experience was a custom engineered dual station inviting participants to test their limits in a classic bodyweight hang and wall sit challenge. To fuel the competitive fire, we integrated a real time digital leaderboard that tracked structural endurance throughout the day, turning an ordinary sidewalk stroll into a high stakes, spectator friendly event.

The irresistible draw of the activation was the prize tier linked directly to Fitness First’s strategic partnership with Qantas. To celebrate the launch, the space actively promoted an exclusive window where new 12- 18-month memberships could secure up to double Qantas Points and hitting a massive 30,000 points compared to the standard 15,000.

Together, these physical and digital components turned a corporate promotion into a certified street destination. Over the course of the s7 day campaign, the installation maintained continuous foot traffic, massively amplified by an on-site appearance from Olympic Gold Medalist Noemie Fox, who helped spark viral conversation across social media platforms.

The result? A massive wave of 1.5K engaged participants tested their grit, including one ultimate challenger who pushed the boundaries with a spectacular 20-minute wall sit.
